From May 2025 to 2027, the historic Zeughaus will host the interim exhibition “What the City. Perspectives on our city“ will be shown in the historic Zeughaus, while the Münchner Stadtmuseum will remain closed until 2031 due to the general refurbishment. The Film Museum will also remain open until June 2027.
From 15 May 2025, the Münchner Stadtmuseum will be showing an interim exhibition on the specially adapted ground floor of the historic Zeughaus. “What the City. Perspectives on our city“ brings together current urban history topics from almost all of the museum's collections in one exhibition. In ten chapters, it explores issues such as security, poverty, the struggle for equality, tradition and growth in Munich. Munich residents themselves have their say in the exhibition and visitors are involved through interactive hands-on and media stations. Admission is barrier-free and free of charge. Opening hours: Tue-Sun 11am-7pm, closed on Mondays.
The building complex of the Münchner Stadtmuseum is being structurally and conceptually equipped for the future and is being extensively renovated and remodelled for this purpose. The museum will therefore be closed from January 2024 until probably 2031. The Film Museum of the Münchner Stadtmuseum, with its extensive archive of historical films, will continue to offer a daily changing cinema programme - except on Mondays - until June 2027.
The Münchner Stadtmuseum is the largest municipal museum in Germany, not only because of its spaciousness in the historical parts of the building from different eras, but also thanks to its multifaceted collections. These include applied arts, urban culture, photography, graphics and paintings, advertising art, puppet theatre and showmanship, music and fashion. The film museum and the “Von Parish Costume Library“ are also part of the Munich City Museum's collections.
Good to know: Munich Card holders are entitled to a reduced admission fee. If one owns the Munich City Pass, the entrance is free of charge. No matter which card you choose, the public transport is included.
Information on barrier-free access can be found at Munich barrier-free.
